Plan Your Visit
Discover 9 historic sites when visiting the Museums of Old York
Many who tour our museums sense they have discovered a treasure locked in time. You'll be introduced to the ordinary - and extraordinary - individuals who built and shaped this town as you tour their homes and public buildings and view our special exhibits. Living history demonstrations, gallery talks, guided tours, and self-guided walks enhance a visit to Old York. Take your picture in the pillory where criminals were once kept for public humiliation in front of the Old Gaol. Special tours can be arranged where you can meet the jailer's family, the Tavern Keeper, or the School Master. To plan a special trip for your family or group, please contact Education Director Anne Poubeau at (207) 363-4974.
The Museum Buildings are within walking distance to charming York Village shops, restaurants, and art galleries. A walking tour through the historic district leads to the sparkling tidal waters of the York River and an 17 acre nature preserve. From the center of York Village it is a short drive to beautiful sandy beaches and the famous Nubble Lighthouse.
