Perkins House Museum

Join Old York for a public open house to celebrate the re-opening of the Perkins House Museum. Tour the first floor of the historic house, including the newly-renovated 1926 kitchen—open for the first time since the house became a museum. Afterwards enjoy snacks and lemonade in the garden! This is a FREE, fun, family-friendly event, with activities throughout the day for children, including lawn games and story time.

Special Activities

11:00 am story time: The Lobsterman by Dahlov Ipcar—This story of a day in the life of a lobsterman’s son, working with his father, is a staple of Maine children’s literature. After the story we will meet some real-life lobsters courtesy of our neighbors, Off the Boat Lobsters, and learn about this curious sea creature and the people who fish for them.

2:00 pm story time: The Circus Ship, by Chris Van Dusen—This rollicking story is very loosely based on the true story of the Royal Tar, a ship full of circus animals that sank off the coast of Maine, near Vinalhaven, in 1836. Children will love helping to find the lost circus animals after the story.
